The Definitions ( lynch-law )

April 2016

Made up of almost one thousands laser cut letters, The Definitions (Lynch-Law) installation is made up of nine definitions, each from a different year. An early definition from 1885 speaks directly to aspects of lynching “To punish without the forms of law;
specifically to hang by mob law”. On the contrast, the most recent definition reads
“The punishment of presumed crimes or offenses usually by death without due process of law” is more open ended, and I could argue, speaks to more of the injustices
we see today.
